Louis Rocconi, PhD

Associate Professor

Biography

Louis Rocconi is an Associate Professor and the Program Coordinator for the Evaluation, Statistics, and Methodology PhD program and an affiliated faculty member with the Intercollegiate Graduate Statistics and Data Science Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He teaches both introductory and advanced applied statistics and educational measurement and psychometric courses. His research interests include program evaluation and assessment and methodological issues in educational research. He has published over thirty peer-reviewed articles in a variety of journals including The Quantitative Methods for PsychologyNumeracyResearch in Higher EducationResearch and Practice in Assessment, The Review of Higher EducationSchool Psychology Review, and Evaluation & the Health Professions. He has published methodological articles geared toward practitioners on topics such as regression to the mean, multilevel modeling, factor analysis, and survey item development. He has created data analysis tools to aid applied researchers in their analysis of multilevel data (e.g., mlmhelpr package in R). He has also led workshops on applied applications of statistical topics, such as data cleaning and propensity score matching. Prior to joining the University of Tennessee, Dr. Rocconi spent five years providing data analytic and survey research support (e.g., data management, report generation, survey item development, psychometric analyses) to several large survey research projects including the National Survey of Student Engagement and the Law School Survey of Student Engagement, two of the largest surveys of undergraduate and graduate students in the United States.
