UT Project GRAD Summer Institute Dates & Requirements

Graduation Really Achieves Dreams! (GRAD)

One hundred fifty students from Austin East and Fulton High Schools (Knoxville, TN) will participate in a one-week, residential pre-college enrichment experience.  Approximately 70-75 students will attend each week, June 12- 17 and June 19 – 24, 2022. Participants will reside on campus at UTK with food services provided by UT Dining.

UTK-Project GRAD Summer Institute Orientation

The academic enrichment experience includes three core courses each morning, from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. including College Research Skills, Math, and English. Afternoons will include participation in one of seven “academic tracks” ranging from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to Sport and Recreation Management from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Students participate in on-campus (T-RECS) and off-campus recreational/social programs each week.  Each Friday, Summer Institute Scholars participate in community service projects throughout the Knoxville area.  They volunteer with local community agencies such as Knoxville ReAnimation Coalition (Odd Fellows Cemetery), Knoxville Area Rescue Mission (KARM), and the Wesley House.

A closing/graduation ceremony is presented for each group.  Scholars receive a certificate and a $150 stipend from Project GRAD Knoxville for completing the UT Summer Institute. Upon completing both the Pellissippi State Community College and UTK Summer Institutes and graduating on-time from Austin-East or Fulton with a minimum 2.5 high school GPA, students are eligible to receive a $4,000 scholarship from Project GRAD Knoxville.
