Mary Ann Jimenez was named the 2021-2022 Graduate Assistant of the Year, Division of Student Life, University of Tennessee Knoxville, and selected as a member of the 2022-2023 NASPA Graduate Associate Program.

Tatiana Messersmith (Cohort 2016) is the 2018 UTK Commission for LGBTQ People Advocate Award Recipient.  The LGBTQ Advocate Award recognizes a faculty member, staff member, or student who demonstrates a commitment to advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues on campus.

Aaron Dixon (Cohort 2019) will serve as a Graduate Housing Intern in Residence Life at Belmont University (Nashville, TN).

Nick Grant (Cohort 2019) will serve as NODA Intern in the Office of New and Transfer Student Orientation at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Milwaukee, WI).

Mary-Kate Hovanic (Cohort 2019) will serve as an Advocacy Intern at The Sexual Assault Center of East Tennessee (Knoxville, TN).

Drew Ashby-King (Cohort 2019) and L. K. Hanasono have co-authored the manuscript (in press) with the Journal of Student Affairs. A dual-process approach to testing the effectiveness of a social media activism workshop.

Stephanie Hill (Cohort 2018), Graduate Assistant, New Student and Family Programs, will serve as the South Atlantic representative on the National Association of College and University Residence Halls Advisor Resource Training Standards Committee.

Jheri Wills (Cohort 2019) was selected to serve as the first annual SACSA Presidential Scholar Intern.  The SACSA Presidential Scholar is a yearlong (2017-2018) internship designed for a first-year master’s student in a college student affairs graduate preparation program. The Presidential Scholar will work one-on-one with the SACSA President (currently President-Elect) for the duration of the president’s term (November 2017-November 2018). The purpose of this experience is to provide a master’s student with a unique professional development opportunity.

William Teer (Cohort 2018) was selected as the 2017-2018 UT representative for NASPA’s Graduate Associate Program (GAP). The NASPA Graduate Associate Program is an initiative to increase leadership opportunities for graduate students. They collaborate with other graduate assistants and serve as communication conduits for NASPA events, publications, and program offerings within a campus community.

Mary Kate (MK) Misak (Cohort 2017) and UTK Panhellenic Vice-President of Internal Affairs Eduarda Lague (Class of 2018) placed first in the 2017 Order of Omega Case Study Competition at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values Central Conference in Indianapolis, IN.

J. Rashad Small (Cohort 2016) was elected as Consortium of Higher Education LGBTQ Professional Membership, Structure, and Process Chair.

Kelsey Elam-Geuting (Cohort 2016) is the 2016 Association for Fraternity Advisors (AFA) Adele Williamson Outstanding Masters Research Award Recipient. The purpose of the award is to encourage and support the study and dissemination of high-quality research on the role of the fraternity and sorority in higher education. Kelsey’s thesis is entitled: Peer Educators in National Panhellenic Conference Sororities.

Amanda Luckett (Cohort 2017)—graduate assistant in the Center for Health Education and Wellness—is a collaborator on a US Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women Grant.  For her capstone project, she is creating a course for the Educational Leadership minor titled Sexual Violence: The Issue, The Challenge, and Creating Change. All work related to the course must be approved by the Department of Justice. On Monday, September 19, the syllabus for her course was formally approved.

Keith Carver, Ph.D. (2009) (CSP Cohort 1995) was selected in the fall of 2016 as the next chancellor for the University of Tennessee, Martin.

Mary Kate Misak (Cohort 2017) served on the graduate staff for the 2016 Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. November 30–December 3.

Kelsey Elam-Geuting (Cohort 2016) is the recipient of the 2017 ACPA Commission for Professional Preparation Gerald Saddlemire Masters Research Award. The Saddlemire Award recognizes the outstanding scholarship of a master’s student in a student affairs graduate preparation program.

Abby Coon (Cohort 2018) served as the UT ambassador for NASPA’s TPE (The Placement Exchange) for the 2016–17 academic year.

Caroline Terry (Cohort 2015) was the 2015–16 Mercer University Student Leadership Awards Outstanding Student Organization Advisor for her work with the Mercer Residence Hall Association.

The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards was awarded the Innovative Program of the Year Award (VolsREACH) for the Division of Student Life. Jennifer (JC) Cooper (Cohort 2016) developed the program.

Brandon Woodmancy (Cohort 2017) was University Housing’s Graduate Assistant of the Year (2015–16).

Nicole Nicholson (Cohort 2017) served as a conference intern for the 2016 NODA Annual Conference in November (Indianapolis, Indiana).
