Biography

Merce Poindexter joined the University of Tennessee’s Thornton Center staff in February 2016 and currently serves as the Associate Director of Academic Services for the football and women’s volleyball programs. Prior to arriving to the University of Tennessee, Poindexter served as a Senior Academic Advisor at Florida State University from 2013-2016, where he provided academic oversight to the football program.. Poindexter is also an active member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), and served as the committee chair for the Ethnic Concerns Committee during the 2017-2018 calendar year.

Poindexter attended the University of Akron as a football student-athlete, and was the offensive captain of his team in 2008. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business and Organizational Communication in 2009, and his Master’s degree in Sport Administration in 2011. He resides in Knoxville with his wife, Shelly, and their son Zayne.
