Lorna Hollowell

Biography

Lorna Hollowell serves as the Education and Training Consultant in the Division of Diversity and Engagement at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  Her role is critical to developing organizational capacity to align the University's values regarding diversity, inclusion and engagement with its subsequent policies, practices, structures, climate, and culture.  To operationalize the University’s Vol Values for diversity and inclusion, she coordinates and facilitates learning opportunities to increase cultural competency and intercultural development of students, staff, and faculty to cultivate a welcoming campus environment for diverse populations and where all Vols matter and belong. She serves as the chair of the Intercultural Development Inventory Advisory Board (IDI), Advisor of the Diversity and Engagement Student Advisory Board, certified member of the UTK National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI), and a member of the UT Libraries Diversity Subcommittee. 

Prior to joining the University of Tennessee Knoxville, Hollowell served as the Director of Diversity and Multicultural Programs at the University of Minnesota Crookston, where she led the institution’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion to increase cultural competency on campus and in the community; implemented initiatives to support the recruitment, advisement, retention, and graduation of students from underrepresented populations; and coordinated and facilitated programming and learning opportunities for the exploration and appreciation of intercultural diversity.

Hobbies and Interests: Bicycling, retail therapy (shopping!), singing and listening to gospel music.


Research

The impact of social resiliency, faith, and spirituality upon the academic, social, and personal lived experiences of Black women endeavoring to graduate from and/or to advance professionally into to senior executive roles or to gain promotion through the faculty ranks at predominately white institutions (PWI).
