The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is grateful for the continued generosity of its many supporters. This generosity plays a large part in the department’s ability to provide financial support for our students and faculty. Interested parties may contribute to the department’s general enrichment fund or to more specialized funds.
The Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Enrichment Fund was established for the purpose of supporting faculty and student exploratory research and new instructional initiatives. The funds are distributed by the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department Head only when faculty (and students who are working with faculty) submit proposals and budget justification statements that describe the purpose and need for the project and what the outcomes will be if the project is funded. Often, enrichment funds are used as seed money to support new research and teaching initiatives that lead to the preparation of much larger proposals.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies views leaders as stewards and servants of organizations; designers of the social and cultural climate in which they work; teachers who facilitate and encourage human growth and development; change agents who continually examine the purpose and performance of their organizations; and conceptual provocateurs who challenge ideas and assumptions on which policy and practice are built. The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies has specific funds which support particular aspects of its programs. Restricted gifts may be made to the funds below.
One of the most prestigious awards available to secondary school principals in Tennessee. The award honors the late William J. Field and wife, Lucille, and is a fitting tribute to the educational excellence these former Tennessee educators exemplified. This monetary award is presented to a Tennessee secondary school principal whose life and work are characterized by leadership excellence.
Awarded to a full-time masters or doctoral student in Educational Administration. Recipient must possess excellence in scholarship, sensitivity to current social problems, and a high degree of leadership potential.
A substantial monetary award that is available to students pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Supervision (major in Education with a concentration in Leadership Studies in Education). Recipients must be in full-time residency at The University of Tennessee while they pursue the terminal degree. Criteria for the award include evidence of the following qualities: (1) excellence in scholarship, (2) sensitivity to current social problems, and (3) a high degree of leadership potential. This award can be granted for up to two years.
A monetary award that is available to students pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Supervision (Major in Education with a concentration in Leadership Studies in Education). Recipients must be in full-time residency at the University of Tennessee while they pursue the terminal degree. Criteria for this award include evidence of the following qualities: (1) excellence in scholarship, (2) sensitivity to current social problems, and (3) a high degree of leadership potential. This award can be granted for up to two years.
Awarded to a student who is currently enrolled or has enrolled at The University of Tennessee. The recipient must be specializing in the area of Higher Education Administration or Educational Administration (K-12 schools).
Awarded to a doctoral student in the leadership studies unit who is a minority (minority is defined broadly). Recipients must: (1) show excellence in scholarship, (2) have sensitivity to current social problems, and (3) possesses a high degree of leadership potential.
Given to a master’s student in Education Administration who demonstrates excellence in potential to become a school leader. The award is given to offset tuition or to support travel to a professional conference.
A fund used to support the Higher Education Program (Ph.D.). The fund is used to support student and faculty travel as well as resources that are needed by the Higher Education Administration faculty.
Used for students and faculty in the College Student Personnel Program (master’s). This fund is used to support travel as well as resources that are needed by the College Student Personnel program and identified by its coordinator.
Provides in-school support to assist leaders with embedding learning as part of their professional day. In addition, follow-up professional development is offered to provide continuous learning for the practicing leader. Our principal-in-residence serves as a mentor, consultant and professional development expert to support the learning community. This includes training for current and future principals which focuses on yielding heightened student learning and success from an innovative and hands-on approach.
