Educational Administration and Supervision MS, EdS, and PhD Program

Welcome from the EAS Program Coordinator

Welcome to the web site for the Educational Administration and Supervision (EDAM) Program.  The Educational Administration and Supervision Program has been a leader in preparing PreK- 12 principals and school system leaders throughout East Tennessee and the southeastern United States.  The Educational Administration and Supervision Program is a founding member of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), a consortium of leading research universities from across the nation that are actively engaged in the preparation of educational leaders.  Our programs are NCATE and SACS approved.

EDAM offers four programs of study for our students:

• PreK – 12 Licensure Certificate in Educational Administration;
• Master of Science (MS) degree in Educational Administration;
• Specialist in Education (EdS) degree in Educational Administration; and
• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education degree with a concentration in Leadership Studies in Education.

The licensure certificate is a non-degree one year program, while the MS and EdS programs are typically two year programs.  These programs are designed around the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and the Tennessee Instructional Leaders (TIL) standards.  The program experience culminates with the production of an electronic personal portfolio.  Upon completion of the program, students register for the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) examination, required by the State of Tennessee for licensure.

The PhD program develops educational leaders who are scholar-practitioners and researchers.  Students are prepared with the skills to understand the power of ideas and connect those ideas to theory and practice.  Students have opportunities to present their research at national conferences and publish their findings in educational journals.  Students in our program have received national recognition through invitations to participate in the UCEA David Clark Graduate Student Seminar and the Barbara Jackson Scholars Program.

All programs of study are designed as learning communities, following an open cohort model.  Program faculty model this learning community and encourage students to work collaboratively with faculty on research, conference presentations, and publication.  The EDAM faculty are a diverse group with interests in middle school education, educational policy, school improvement, school accountability, school leadership, teacher leadership, job satisfaction, and job burnout.
