Dr. Strayhorn received a prestigious award from ASHE, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the 2009 Promising Scholar/Early Career Award, at the recent conference in Vancouver, BC. The award is given for a "significant body of scholarship" by a higher education scholar who is no more than six years beyond receiving the doctoral degree. Congratulations, Dr. Strayhorn!

An e-mail update from Laura (Bilderback) Brownlee:

Hi there!!

Well, it's almost August, which means it's time for another relocation...
That's been the story for the past few years, anyhow.

First from a ship to WI,
Then WI to NV,
Third NV to CO,
now CO to OH!!f

Earlier this month, I received a job offer from Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance, OH.  I will be the Colleague Relations Coordinator, doing Human Resource-type things - recruitment, a little benefits, new employee orientation, some employee-development activities, and once the hospital's wellness-focused programming comes into play, hopefully run with all my great passion for keeping people happy and well and help oversee that!!

My lover and I will be moving the first week in August, and we'll be staying with my folks (a 50-minute commute) until we find a "nesting" spot.  :)  They are so kind to offer us the well-room area in the garage.  Haha, just kidding, we'll get to inhibit my old room and have to sleep in separate twin beds.  Again, just kidding... I hope.

I'll begin work on August 10th.

Craig will continue to develop and grow his business - NetSport USA - with his colleague-partner in Korea.  As long as he has an internet connection and his cellie, he's able to work anywhere.  You can check out his cool work at www.NetSportUSA.com

I hope this finds you well, enjoying the summer sunshine.
Hugs,
Laura

Abigail Hursh is now the Assistant Director of Disability Services at Gateway Community and Technical College, which is in northern Kentucky in the close suburbs of Cincinnati. She was offered the position, accepted, moved, and started over a two-week period!   There are 3 campuses, so she travels amongst them.  It seems to be a really good fit for her, and she's enjoying herself in both the job and the location- lots to do!  Thanks to Dr. Mertz and the faculty with CSP for everything they did to help get Abigail there!!!

In the following clip, co-editors Jaime Lester and Margaret Sallee discuss their upcoming book Establishing the Family-Friendly Campus: Models for Effective Practice, set to be published in March 2009 by Stylus Publishing.  This volume examines the need for family-friendly policies and documents the “best practices” currently being implemented at colleges and universities around the United States.  Each chapter highlights practices and programs from a variety of institutions that address the needs of a more inclusive family-friendly campus and offers suggestions to others who are implementing similar change on their campuses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ4XporqB-8 (12/08/2008)

Welcome to our newest faculty member! Dr. Margaret Sallee is Assistant Professor of Higher Education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.  She teaches in both the College Student Personnel Master’s program and the Higher Education Administration Ph.D. program. Fall 2006

Welcome!

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn just returned from the 31st Annual Conference of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) which convened in Anaheim, California. The conference was a great success and it provided him with an opportunity to interact with a number of colleagues across the nation. While there, Dr. Strayhorn learned of some very good news! He was awarded the 2006 Outstanding Junior Scholar Award by the Council on Ethnic Participation within the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). This is the highest honor bestowed upon individual scholars who are no more than
5 years beyond their doctorate. The criteria for selection were: quality of scholarship, sole-authored scholarly contribution(s) to the field of higher education, and service within ASHE. Way to go Dr. Strayhorn! (11/13/2006)
