Stephanie Cohn sends greetings from Seattle, Washington! She now works as a consultant with a nonprofit organization called Management Leadership for Tomorrow which provides MBA admission coaching and guidance to underrepresented minority professionals. Stephanie reviews MBA application essays from the late summer through early winter and provides feedback on essays in terms of areas for development and improvement. This job enables her to work from home on a part-time basis, which has been wonderful since the birth of her and Cecil's new baby girl, Joely last December. Congratulations on your job and the new baby, Stephanie!

Abigail Hursh is now the Assistant Director of Disability Services at Gateway Community and Technical College, which is in northern Kentucky in the close suburbs of Cincinnati. She was offered the position, accepted, moved, and started over a two-week period! There are 3 campuses, so she travels amongst them. It seems to be a really good fit for her, and she's enjoying herself in both the job and the location- lots to do! Thanks to Dr. Mertz and the faculty with CSP for everything they did to help get Abigail there!!!

Please join me in congratulating two new authors in our doctoral program and CSP alums: Amanda Blakewood (research associate, Ph.D. student) and James DeVita (research associate, Ph.D. student). Amanda and James co-authored an article (with Strayhorn) titled, “Factors Affecting the College Choice of African American Gay Male Undergraduates: Implications for Retention.” And, James also authored a review of Frank Hale’s book titled, “How Black College Empower Black Students.” Both of these appear in a recently released special theme issue of the NASAP Journal (volume 11, issue 1).
Not only is this great news for two of our doctoral students but it continues to strengthen the reputation of our program/department nationally. Join me in celebrating their success!!! Feel free to respond to them directly: ablakewo@utk.edu and jdevita@utk.edu.
