William J. & Lucille H. Field Award for Excellence in Tennessee Secondary School Leadership

The Field Award, which is administered by the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee, recognizes a Tennessee secondary school principal whose life and work are characterized by leadership excellence.

Purpose of the Field Award:

To recognize an outstanding secondary school leader who demonstrates leadership excellence through commitment to the values of civility, candor, courage, social justice, responsibility, compassion, community, persistence, service, and excellence.

To challenge secondary school principals to pause and reflect upon their current leadership practice and to consider their experience, challenges, and opportunities in light of the personal values that they embody.

To encourage secondary school leaders to develop values that support leadership excellence.

Any superintendent, teacher, or community member with first-hand knowledge of a principal exhibiting qualities and accomplishments signifying educational excellence may nominate that individual.  Nomination letters should contain the individual’s name, address, and phone number and briefly summarize the accomplishments and leadership qualities of the nominee.  Nominees will be contacted and invited to submit additional application materials.

The successful candidate will receive a monetary award and certificate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and be asked to present highlights of his or her leadership experiences and accomplishments to a class of master’s and doctoral level students preparing for licensure as instructional leaders.
